An intro from Coach Cordell

Hello, and welcome to Golden State Sports Training and Recruiting Service! Although I have been doing this since 1996, this website represents yet another phase of personal and professional growth. First and foremost, I would like to thank my family for their patience with me all these years. I know that most of the time they are not quite sure what I am doing, but they are sure that I am passionate about what I am doing! I am also thankful to, and thankful for, all the wonderful athletes, and their families for their support throughout the past decade. I look forward to continuing the great relationships we have developed. And I would like to thank you for trusting me with the development of your athletes on and off the field. It has been a privilege to serve as a mentor to your athletes!

For those new to the site, a warm welcome to you! How can I explain what this venture is all about? Well, the majority of my athletes have been with me for nearly five years or more. When I set out to apply my coaching in a business setting back in 1996, my underlying philosophy was that I wanted to develop as many athletes as possible without sacrificing the personal touch, all the while creating a foundation of trust that would allow athletes as well as myself to continue to improve. I can honestly say that I have learned as much, if not more, from working with my athletes. I have seen common characteristics of will power, determination, and self-confidence. I have also seen the human side of sports and competition. I have spent workout times rebuilding a young athletes bruised ego, and convincing athletes that setbacks are temporary, and that life is more than sports, and also that sports continually offer valuable life lessons. Resiliency, persistence, compassion, and drawing something positive out of adverse conditions, are just a few of the lessons my athletes, and I have learned (and re-learned). So, this venture is about building relationships, and having that relationship benefit the coach and the player toward self-improvement.

I have had the pleasure and gratification of seeing former players move on to professional sports, and on to continue their careers at the college and university level. A handful of former players are now colleagues of mine in the college coaching ranks. I gladly find myself in the role of student when speaking to these former players turned coaches. I feed off their energy and enthusiasm. I am energized by their quest for knowledge, and how they constantly seek to become better coaches. I think they have successfully “snatched the pebble from my hand.” (That quote is dating myself…my players won’t know what it means, but I know parents will!)

Whether it is private instruction, a camp, clinic, or just advice on moving on to college or the pros, I invite you to see what it’s all about at Golden State Sports Training and Recruiting Services. I look forward to developing your athlete and helping them reach their goals! Check out the site regularly as I will be updating the content.
